Broken Bridge....across Adyar river ,Chennai

Posted by
Sunder (Chennai, India) on 8 August 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

This pedestrian bridge ( built 1966) across the river partly collapsed after heavy rains in Monsoon due to strong currents of the river.

Proposals to repair and renovate this bridge have been sanctioned by the Government...

A true "bridge to nowhere". I like how you included the people in the picture for scale.

8 Aug 2010 5:55am

@Luke Wiley: Thanks Luke, Glad you liked it..
I suppose your comment " A bridge to nowhere" would have been a much better title.
Shame, it didnt occur to me...

can see the scale of it.. with the people there!:)

8 Aug 2010 5:58am

@kate: Yes, Kate..It was once a lovely bridge..Of course now the river runs dry...

QB from Victoria, Canada

A huge structure... but the riverbed is very shallow. The river must rise with the rain?

8 Aug 2010 6:06am

@QB: Yes, indeed, at times of heavy rains, the water level rises..though now during summer it runs dry..
Thanks for your comment.

The presence of pedestrians allows us to visualize the dimensions of this construction. The repair would be useful because the staircase is a little high, now ! :)
