Coconut Vendor @ Mylapore Market, Chennai

Posted by
Sunder (Chennai, India) on 15 September 2010 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This is a cheerful bloke @ the market who delights in serving tender coconut water to his customers - brandishing his sickle to slice-open the coconut and serve with a drinking straw.
It was mainly his up-beat personality and joyful attitude which attracted me.
Sadly, his facial muscles froze to this serious expression...( Was it me or something else ..maybe he wanted to hide his missing front teeth ??)
Although it doesnt reflect his true nature, I still thought this portrait was worth uploading...

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

Wow - another reminder that life for most people on this earth is far simpler - and that we don't need a lot of 'stuff' to enjoy doing what we do. Thanks, Sunder.

I'm so glad you told us how cheerful he is - so that we can see through the exterior and glimpse his inner joy. Makes you wonder how many of us walk around with a façade that does not reflect our inner beings!

Yes I agree with Steve - this poor fellow probably freezes at the rare occasion (possibly) when someone photographs him. - perhaps almost never! Sort of a form of "stage fright," one might say...You did a great job here Sunder!!!
