Ramu, the Potter...

Posted by
Sunder (Chennai, India) on 6 October 2010 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This amiable old man was very talented and didnt mind being photographed at all.
He was full of stories - including how he once "trained" a movie star who had to play a potter in a Tamil blockbuster he has trained his son to be a potter as he once visited Paris as a part of team representing Indian Culture & tradition...

Although he kept smiling and chatting, I could see a melancholic look in his eyes. His life long habit of chewing betel leaves ( Vettrilai) has permanantly stained his few remaing precious teeth.

I had to ask -"So, how was I at pottery ?"
With his typical smile, he said " There are a lot other things,Sir, I am sure, you are better at..."
Yet another valuable lesson learnt from an illiterate person...- how to answer truthfully without hurting the other person...
