What one wants & what he gets are 2 diff.. things

Posted by
Sunder (Chennai, India) on 4 January 2011 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

My aim was to enhance the sparkle of light from the crystal....something like sparkle of a diamond....

I tweaked with photoshop..used something called "gamma correction" submenu under Exposure and landed this effect...

Are there any "en-sparkling" commands in photoshop / or any software to get the effect I want..

Ummm, gamma correction isn't what you are looking for. Gamma correction is about correcting a non-linear response from black to white. It, in effect, corrects the greys in the image.(Although, it can also correct colour mid-tones as well)There are a number of 3rd party filters out there that will put "Stars" or "Sparklies" on a shot, but I always think that they look a bit cheesy(Sometimes cheesy works-like put a star on someones teeth if they are perfectly white, and you are having some fun!
Here are some ideas to play with.
If you over sharpen , you end up with a weird aura(Try putting all the sliders all the way to the right
"Hard Light" multiplied over the original can do something close to what you are looking for
Have fun!

I like the "look" that you were able to achieve. I'm not in to special filters. Looks good to me.
