Miniature "Coal" Iron Box

Posted by
Sunder (Chennai, India) on 6 January 2011 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

The dimensions of this iron is 2.5 cms in length.

These coal iron presses have value today in its antiquity.
We can still see them around in use - people who do the ironing /pressing for a charge.
The plus points are the heavy weight of the iron - just one swish and all the wrinkles are gone & coal is cheaper than electricity.

Chinese women are reported to have used such heated irons to their silk fabrics more than 1000 years ago !!

Very cool. It would take more than a few coals to heat this baby. I see these, from time to time, used as doorstops, lol.
