Central Prison, Chennai

Posted by
Sunder (Chennai, India) on 29 March 2011 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

This gate which leads to a building once housed the most dangerous criminals and was a popular landmark - it no longer has any inmates. You cna just about make out the letters on the right of the photo.

Apparently it is very expensive to the government to maintain these prisons.

The inmates have been transferred to another new prison.

But the vultures are still circling looking for those that didn't make it!(Sorry, that's a bit sick!)

Great shot of this imposing entrance. Looks like a large and valuable site - redevelopment can't be too far away.

I agree with Stephen! With all the buildings in the background I am sure this will not remain undeveloped for long. Nicely captured Sunder! ;-)

I'm glad you weren't visiting a dangerous place. Excellent capture.

A fine capture of this old prison. Perhaps the city could take over the unused prison and put it to good use.
